Marci L Gaither, Ph.D., ABSMIP, is a licensed counseling psychologist who is board certified in serious mental illness psychology. She completed her PhD at Ball State University and her predoctoral psychology internship through the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). She is based at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and serves as lead for the facility psychosis team as well as the Early Psychosis Intervention Coordination (EPIC) program. Dr. Gaither is the first person in VHA to attain Beck Institute Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Certified Clinician status. As part of her professional service, Dr. Gaither serves on the Executive Committee of the American Psychological Association’s Serious Mental Illness/Severe Emotional Distress section. In 2022, she co-authored a call-to-action chapter in Recovering the U.S. mental health care system: The past, the present and the future of psychosocial interventions for psychosis. She is passionate about providing veterans living with psychosis with access to evidence-based treatments and has accordingly trained to competency in multiple modalities including CBT for psychosis, social skills training, behavioral family therapy and recovery-oriented cognitive therapy. In addition to providing direct clinical services at her local facility, she also provides clinical supervision for predoctoral psychology interns and postdoctoral psychology fellows on the psychosis rotation. Dr. Gaither also works with the VHA National Telemental Health Center to provide CBTp to veterans across the US in order to improve access to this type of care.
